We made a quick trip to Backnang & Steinbach, if you would call a 3-hr one-way drive a quick trip! (But that comes from my dad – “just a little drive!”) Backnang & Steinbach are just outside Stuttgart and the towns where my great-great-great grandparents married & my great-great grandfather was born. We originally were planning on visiting the towns when we first left Stuttgart (Sat, 14th) to go to Schliersee. But it was a very late night after the getting lost trying to find the hotel in Stuttgart, we figured we’d best head out of town and come back another day. We did manage to avoid the highway problem (or I should say lack of highway) we encountered the first time & saw some other nice countryside.

We didn’t get to find any ancestor history but did wander in Backnang just a little. Walked around another beautiful church on top of a hill overlooking the town.

Had asked at the visitors center about cemeteries but those on the map would have been too new for any of my ancestors. Checked out the only one in Steinbach but found that one to be too new also.

I didn’t get any photos of the town signs since I was the one driving on the way into town & then Bob drove on the way out of town & it was pouring rain when we left. So guess I’ll just have to come back another time!
We did find the fire station to trade another patch for Shaun.
